Experienced guides escort riders twice daily along the 13km circular route that takes about two hours to complete. The trail leads through beautiful fynbos coastal vegetation, towards the Gamtoos river with breathtaking views from the dunes and finally returning along a 6 km stretch of deserted beach where riders can have an exhilarating gallop on the sand.
The guides escort every group and assist riders in selecting horses just right for their respective capabilities. This outride is ideal for intermediate and advanced riders, though in quiet times, we also accommodate first timers and beginners. Experienced riders can choose not to go with a guide and have the freedom to explore the valley at their own pace.
RIDING EXPERIENCE
If You have different experience riders in the group – please make separate bookings for Beginner, Intermediate & Experienced Riders. Riders of different experience will have the same departure time but will have horses that suit their skill and group will be split into rider capabilities during the trail.
BEGINNER CLASS:
Ridden a horse only on trail rides. Do not know what a posting trot is about. This is you if, when the horse goes into a trot (second gear), you start hitting the saddle hard, have no way to control it and are hanging onto the saddle for dear life.
INTERMEDIATE CLASS:
Have been taught how to trot and canter and understand how to control a horse. Can ride without holding onto the saddle and are not pulling on your horse’s mouth.
ADVANCED CLASS:
Can jump fences, can handle a bucking rearing beast and turn it back into a trail pony.

I have been involved in the horse industry for the past 50 years ...which includes Rodeo (barrel racing ) and riding Polo horses. While on vacation at Jeffrey's Bay myself and my boyfriend decided to stop by and go for a beach ride.. The first thing we noticed is the care of the horses is at a high level ...they actually rotate the horses to give them a break monthly... Lovely ride through the dunes and onto the beach. I am an advanced rider so got to canter a bit on the beach which was lovely. The horses are well looked after and are stocky, strong horses. This is probably the first horse riding experience I have had which I felt (as a rider and horse owner) comfortable to do and enjoy. The only word of criticism or caution I can offer is that I was paired with beginner riders and when Jan and I took off down the beach, their horses decided it looked like fun and they came with. The saddles are lovely and safe so nobody fell off but it was a bit scary for my fellow riders. Otherwise though, a lovely experience which I hope I will be able to do again sometime! - Caitlin
What a wonderful experience. The guides, after watching us for a little while, were confident in our abilities to gallop independently down the beach. What a thrilling experience and one I wish I could've done over and over. Had we stayed in the area longer we probably would've booked the ride again. It was gloriously fun.
